How Sowable works
Sowable is a calm planning tool for growing food in Irish gardens. This iteration is a visual beta: you can plan, but nothing is stored on our servers.
1. Measure your growing area
Sowable is metric throughout. Enter the width and depth of the space you actually have — a 4 m × 3 m back garden strip, a raised-bed corner, a balcony run. The plan starts at 4 m × 3 m and everything snaps to a 25 cm grid, so what you draw maps onto real ground.
2. Place beds and crops
Add a bed, drag it where it belongs, resize it with the handle or type exact dimensions. Then choose a crop and place it: single plants go where you tap, and row crops are drawn to the length you want and can be lengthened or shortened later. Every drag has a numeric equivalent, so the planner works with a keyboard as well as a mouse.
3. Get your next step
Choosing a crop shows its spacing, planting depth and indicative planting window, along with a suggested next step such as 'Sow Carrot in Bed 1 by 3 March 2026'. At the same time, a list of what you'll need builds itself from what is in the plan.
